We recently reported over the company’s new invention which would allow homeowners to produce their own power at a fraction of the cost of current utilities. The startup company behind the Bloom Box has a buzz about a potential IPO (initial purchase offer) that has many wondering: is this a good investment?

Bloom Energy just didn’t pop up out of nowhere. In 2001, Ion America Corporation – the predecessor of the company– was formed. The company has developed a box that takes natural gas or other fuels and turns it in to electricity. The byproducts include hydrogen.
There are those that are excited about the invention that 60 minutes calls a “power plant in a box”, yet there are skeptics. There are those that note that since the box still uses fossil fuels, it will do little to remedy our energy crisis now.
Others revel in the fact that the Bloom Box will allow them to have power to their homes without using a power grid. These types of devices could become useful if our energy grid was ever attacked. In addition, they would make for great backup in the event of natural disasters.
Whether or not the Bloom Energy stock symbol will be something you mention to your trader is up to you and you alone. There are risks and rewards with any investment.
