Bloom Energy Fuel Cell a Big Innovation or Overblown Hype?

February 23rd, 2010

Bloom Energy Fuel Cell a Big Innovation or Overblown Hype?  The invention was featured on 60 minutes Sunday night.  Since then, everyone’s been talking about the company’s innovation.  There’s a lot of skepticism and a lot of anticipation over this technology that was revealed.

The so-called “Bloom Box” would allow homes and businesses to generate their own electricity.  Such technology would cut a household’s utility bill significantly and also reduce their carbon footprint.

The Bloom Energy Fuel Cell Bloom Box was created by a Sunnydale start-up and according to 60 minutes, it “features a new kind of fuel cell. Oxygen combines with fossil fuels like natural gas or renewable fuels like solar to create a chemical reaction that produces electricity, with no need for power lines from an outside source. Sridhar, an Indian-born engineer who has a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, told “60 Minutes” that his fuel cells use sand that is baked into a ceramic and then coated with proprietary inks.”

Green living has become more and more popular over the past few years. Reducing carbon footprints and finding ways to save money on energy have become a great thing.  If or when the cost of natural gas and other energy sources increases in the future, the company will be glad that they were a pioneer in creating the Bloom Box.

What do you think about the innovation? Will you purchase one, or do you think this is just another fad?

My spouse and i have really been looking into solar for nearly a year and we eventually made the decision based upon on the mix of the governtment incentive plans and additionally unbelievably cost effective loans. The two of us have actually already been looking into solar power for approximately a calendar year and then my partner and i eventually made the actual investment based mostly on on the mix of the governtment incentive programs as well as exceptionally economical loans. I genuinely didn’t believe just how economical the program ended up being not to mention we will have been a new solar house for around one 30 days and furthermore every little thing seem to be like it all is in fact working out very good. We can basically observe exactly how very much power our organization aer preserving each night and it is without a doubt quite marvelous. I think some people are being miss-lead by phrases like this, “The so-called “Bloom Box” would allow homes and businesses to generate their own electricity.” you will not be your own utility. Look at it like this, a full(grill) propane tank will produce 5 times more energy with a Bloom Box hooked to it. How can I invest or get one of these devices for my personal use, before the big company’s buy it up. This is a great invention if it last for decades or long enough to pay for your investment. For every lump of coal burned you get four more for FREE!!!
