Apple iPad 3g Data Plan Release Date, and iPad 3g vs Wi-Fi

April 22nd, 2010

Apple iPad 3g Data Plan Release Date, and iPad 3g vs Wi-Fi.  The new Apple iPad is all the craze.  Foreigners that come to the US want to buy them because they aren’t available overseas until at least May 10. Those in the US are snatching them up because they are the only tablet computer available on the market currently.

Still yet, there are those holding back from purchasing the iPad because they aren’t sure whether or not they want the 3g version or the wi-fi only version of the product.

For light users who want to stay home, the wi-fi version will suffice and is more affordable.  The price points are $499, $599, and $699 for 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB models. For the 3g, you will pay $629, $729, and $829 for the same amount of memory.
The data plan is affordable, at $14.99 monthly for 250 MB of data transfer.  $30 will get you unlimited data, which is a great buy considering that laptop card users on AT&T’s network shell out $60 per month for 5 GB of data.

Wi-Fi connections typically run faster than 3g connections, although those who travel a lot and aren’t always  in AT&T hotspots may find that the added convenience of having the data plan is worth the extra cost.

The iPad 3g is coming to Apple stores on April 30 at 5:00 PM EST (call your local Apple store to confirm).  Those who pre-ordered the product online will experience shipment by May 7, 2010.
