Toyota Recalls and Toyoda and Congress to Meet
February 21st, 2010
Toyota Recalls and Toyoda and Congress to Meet. Toyota’s recalls have plagued the company that was once hailed for their quality initiatives. For decades, business managers across a variety of disciplines tried to do things the “Toyota Way.”
It looks like the days of the Toyota Way are numbered, as multiple recalls have shaken consumer confidence in the company. First, there was a massive recall of multiple models of Toyota’s best selling vehicles because of accelerators that would stick on. This issue is even believed to have caused deaths.
Then, the Toyota recall expanded to the Prius hybrid. This recall is due to a “software glitch” in the braking system. This too is a very dangerous problem.
There’s also been talk of a Toyota Corolla recall. With all these problems surfacing, it’s no surprise that Congress wants answers. What is Toyota doing to protect American lives?
The president of Toyota, Akio Toyoda, is set to testify before Congress on Wednesday about the safety of his company’s vehicles. Previously, Akio didn’t plan on coming to speak with American officials about his vehicles.
Chances are there is little that Toyoda can say to take away from the seriousness of the situation. There are definite issues with the company’s vehicles.
If the same quality issues were apparent in American vehicles, you’d better believe that the government would be all over it. Foreign automakers should be treated the same if they wish to have a place in our markets.
