Iran backs Hezbollah Against Israel
February 18th, 2010
Iran backs Hezbollah Against Israel: President of Iran Ahmadinejad spoke on the phone with Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, and told the leader he should be ready to fight against any Israeli attack. This comes as Iran is defying the west over its nuclear program, which the country claims is for “peaceful purposes only,” primarily to generate power for the entire country.
Iran has been a key supporter for Hezbollah over the years and also has been accused of supplying them with weapons and money to fight Israel. Iran has always denied giving weapons to these groups. With the tensions heating up again in the Middle East, Syria’s president Bashar Assad has accused Israel of avoiding peace and warned if war was to break out, Israeli cities would most likely be attacked.
Israeli responded to the threat and responded that if attacked “the Syrian regime would collapse”. In 2006, Israeli and Hezbollah fought a month-long war, which destructed parts of south Lebanon and parts of Beirut. Since 2006, Hezbollah has refrained from shooting missiles across the border.
Everyone should take note of what is happening in the Middle East. There are many power struggles going on, which is a powder keg that could have ramifications for the entire world. The Middle East supplies most of the world’s oil, and any war fought over there could drastically alter the lives of those in the US or in Europe.
