2010 Healthcare Reform Bill Summary and Health Care Details, Bill Text, and Updates. One hot topic that’s not going anywhere is healthcare reform. The dialogue about health care will continue to rage on for the next few months, as politicians get ready to campaign for the 2010 mid-term elections.
The measure was passed without a single Republican backing it in the House, and amendments to the plan were zipped through the Senate, House, and sent to the President to be signed. There’s no official word when the revisions to the health care reform bill will be signed by the president.
In the wake of the bill’s passage, there’s been some bad news in the S&P 500. Reports indicate that a combined $4.6 billion could be shaved off the bottom lines of S&P 500 companies, as their earnings will be negatively impacted by the legislation. AT&T alone is reporting a hit to earnings estimate of around $1.6 billion.
As Americans try to make heads or tails of the bill, there are those that feel strongly both ways about the bill. Some are very excited about the historical legislation, which will ensure that everyone has access to some form of health insurance.
Opponents aren’t as excited, and note that the “purpose” of “reform” was to “reign in” insurance companies. On the other hand, the insurance companies will now benefit from every American having to purchase coverage.
The bill could be great for the economy and for Americans as a whole. The bill estimates that billions will be shaved off the country’s deficit, and that it will be funded by various taxes, fees, and penalties built into the bill.
There’s no way to tell exactly how the change in health care reform will develop. We can just keep our fingers crossed that it will be a good thing.
