Michelle Obama “Let’s Move” Campaign and Childhood Obesity Rates
February 14th, 2010
Michelle Obama “Let’ Move” campaign and childhood obesity rates. First Lady Michelle Obama is pushing the “Let’s move” campaign in order to fight childhood obesity. For the first time since in history, the life expectancy of our children could be less than our own life expectancies.
Part of the reason for this is because of the rate of Childhood Obesity. Sedentary lifestyles caused by increased time spent in front of the TV and computers coupled with schools cutting back on physical education has contributed to the epidemic.
The “Let’s Move” campaign gives children an incentive to run around and be more active. Many of us can remember the many days spent outside in the sun during the summers, chasing our friends, swimming, and just being kids.
These days, children would rather spend their days inside the air conditioning playing video games and watching movies.
In addition, our diets are full of processed foods that are not good for us. School lunches aren’t as healthy as they used to be, and many schools offer items for sale that don’t fit in with a healthy lifestyle.
The Let’s Move campaign will strive to get kids moving again, inspire living a more active lifestyle, and hopefully strive to make school lunches healthier. The hope is that by making these changes in a young child’s life, they will begin to make healthier decisions during the rest of their life.
