Cuba Earthquake 2010 another Quake Shakes Land
March 21st, 2010
Cuba Earthquake 2010 another Quake Shakes Land. The earthquake in Haiti, which is near Cuba, started the chain of quakes that the world has felt in 2010. Yesterday’s quake registered at a mere 5.6 on the Richter scale, far below the 7- 8.8 magnitude earthquakes felt in other parts of the world.
Still yet, the Cuban earthquake goes to show that there the recent natural disasters could be far from over.
The 5.6 magnitude quake followed a ritualistic walk by the “Ladies in White” which are female spouses and family members of dissidents. They walk each Sunday through the churches and streets, silently protesting.
There have been no reports of damage or injury from the Cuban earthquakes, unlike many other quakes that have been felt in recent weeks.
The Haitian earthquake killed thousands and devasted the area of Port-au-Prince. The earthquake in Chile killed hundreds, and caused billions of dollars worth of damage and displaced over a million people.
The Chile earthquake also caused a mild tsunami in Hawaii. Many expected the wave to be devastating – similar to a 1960 wave experienced after a different earthquake in Chile. Luckily, the tsunami did no damage in Hawaii either.
In addition to Haiti, Chile and Cuba, the following countries have also experienced earthquakes in recent months: Turkey, Japan, and the United States.
What do you think about the earthquakes? Do you think they are over, or far from over?
