St Mary’s and Villanova – a Big 2010 NCAA Basketball Tournament Upset

March 20th, 2010

St Mary’s and Villanova – a Big 2010 NCAA Basketball Tournament Upset.  The match between St. Mary’s and Villanova has heated up, and at the end of the day #10 seed St. Mary’s upset #2 seed Villanova, changing the landscape of many brackets across the nation.

No one saw the small private Californian college beating out one of the nation’s premiere teams 75-68 during the March Madness championship.

Omar Samhan has been credited with much of the success.  The New York Times even notes that he lives up to the “Beast” tattoo written on his lip.

With less than two minutes left in the game, the teams were tied up 65-65.  Despite Villanova’s best efforts, they couldn’t get past the unstoppable St. Mary’s team.

Maybe the team wasn’t taking the match seriously enough. After all, they were #2 in their division, whereas their opponents were #10.  Still yet, St. Mary’s has what it takes to make it into the Tourney, so they are a serious contender.

Today’s games also include matches involving Kansas, Kansas State, and Kentucky.   If one of those teams are upset, it’s going to be an interesting day.
