Apple iPad and Amazon Kindle War Escalates with Kindle for Mac

March 20th, 2010

Apple iPad and Amazon Kindle War Escalates with Kindle for Mac.  Apple is set to launch their popular iPad on April 3, and the war with the Amazon Kindle is heating up.  The company recently announced that they are coming out with Kindle for Mac software, allowing Mac, iPhone and even hinting at iPad users the capability of reading Amazon ebooks on their computers.

The new software isn’t met with rave reviews, but many point out that Amazon realizes the importance of the market share and the threat that the iPad poses.

Some analysts don’t think that the iPad will affect the Kindle too much, as those that choose the Kindle typically just want to read books and newspapers.  Still yet, the iPad is priced at $499 to start, which isn’t that much more than the Kindle with a lot more functionality.

Pre-orders for the iPad have already become available.  The company warns of a short-term shortage, and those that pre-order may be the only ones to actually receive a unit on April 3.

There are mixed reviews from the public on the Kindle vs the iPad. There are many die-hard Kindle fans that won’t change to the flashy iPad. There are many others who are so addicted to everything Apple, they won’t consider anything else.

There’s a strong liklihood that the Kindle and the iPad will be able to co-exist.  The iPad may steal some thunder from the Amazon product, but it probably won’t be enough to totally kill the Kindle.
