LA Earthquake 2010 Another 4.4 Quake Shakes America

March 16th, 2010

LA Earthquake 2010 Another 4.4 Quake Shakes America.  When will the quakes stop? Los Angeles was hit with a 4.4 earthquake today. Of course, this earthquake is hardly what was felt recently in Haiti and Chile, but it’s still scary considering that ever since January it doesn’t seem like the shaking is going to stop.

There are no reports of damage due to the LA earthquake.  The California Highway patrol is said to have received reports of a 10 foot stretch of highway that was buckled, but then they announced that they do not believe that the earthquake caused the damages.

The LA earthquake struck around 4:00 am, and was felt in a large area of Southern California. According to the Associated Press, “the quake hit not far from the 1987 Whittier Narrows earthquake, a magnitude 5.9 quake that killed eight people and caused more than $350 million in damage.”

There is some chance that the small tremblor felt today is a precursor to a more major event.  This risk diminishes over time, so many in SoCal are holding their breath and hoping for the best.
Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon, and Oklahoma are all states that have had earthquakes recently. For the most part, damage has been minimal and there are no reported deaths associated with the quake.

Earlier this week, earthquakes struck in Japan and Indonesia causing minimal damage but no loss of lives.
