March 15th, 2010
Japan Earthquake 6.6 Earthquake 2010 Leaves Little Devastation. A 6.6 earthquake in Japan rocked the island community, and there have been reports of limited structural damage and no casualties. This is great news for our world, as there has been much devastation felt because of the various earthquakes.
The first quake to happen this year was the Haitian earthquake, which caused mass devastation in the capital city of Port-au-Prince. Months later, the displaced are still having difficulties finding places to live and tent cities are getting run down.
Japan had another earthquake on February 26. This was a 7.0 quake that took place off the coast. It didn’t cause any damage, and a tsunami alert was issued.
ON February 27, Chile experienced an 8.8 earthquake, which in turn caused a minor tsunami in Hawaii. The tsunami didn’t cause any damage to Hawaii – no any injuries. However, the Chile quake caused a significant amount of damage to the country.
In addition to Japan’s latest earthquake, there was also an earthquake felt in Indonesia. The Indonesian quake registered at 6.4 on the Richter scale and isn’t believed to have caused significant damage or casualties.
The Japanese quake took place in Southern Japan, and was felt in Tokyo. Those in Tokyo reported feeling buildings sway, but that is about it.
