Kleen Energy Plant Explosion
February 8th, 2010
This morning, a Kleen Energy plant in Connecticut exploded. Luckily, the plant isn’t online and isn’t even completely built yet so the casualties aren’t near what they could have been.
However, at least 5 people lost their lives and several more were injured. Because the plant is in the process of being built, and also because several contractors were at the scene it is hard to tally how many people were actually at the scene of the incident.
The explosion happened at around 11 am, and many people thought that there was an earthquake. One homeowner even thought that a car hit their home, and services at a church were interrupted by the shaking from the explosion.
One worker was on a scaffold when the explosion took place. He saw people below him get flattened, and he even saw someone without a head after the blast.
The blast shook places up to 20 miles away. Up until now, no one was injured during the plant’s construction.
Workplace safety is very important. There are many power plants around the country, and incidences like this are tragic, but don’t happen very often. As many as 1,000 employees could have been present, although Super Bowl Sunday kept a lot of workers at bay.
Some say 200 were present, whereas other reports say that the crew only amounted to 50 to 60 people.
