Oil Spill: BP Doctored Photos?

July 24th, 2010

Could it be that BP doctored photos of the oil spill cleanup efforts? Reports are surfacing that the oil giant could have been trying to mislead the American public, painting a rosier picture of cleanup efforts than actually exists.  The company has experienced strong opposition from the American public, and is trying to be seen in a more positive light.

However, doctoring photos of the oil spill cleanup efforts is not the way to go about this.  Of course, at a first glance you may hope that the doctored photos rumors were created by all the conspiracy theory themed blogs online, but that is not the case.  This is a widely reported incident that has been reported on major media sources such as the Washington Post.

According to the Washington Post, there have been several instances of doctored photos surfacing out of BP’s publicity centers.  Of course, the photos that were altered weren’t covering up a conspiracy. They were made to make it appear as if the company “cared more” about the spill and its impact.

For instance, some photos made it look like a helicopter that was on a landing pad was really fling high in the air. Another one made it appear as if the company was watching footage of the spill on their boards.

What does the controversy mean?
