North Korea Angered by US and South Korean War Games.  One of the more tense regions of the world is the area of North and South Korea.  South Korea is an ally of the United States, whereas North Korea is a staunch enemy.  The nuclear program in North Korea has been troublesome for the world.  Still yet, the North presses on in their quest to become a military power.

Reports indicate that the US and South Korea have teamed up for annual military exercises, and this has caused a stir in the hornet’s nest that is North Korea. The war games are referred to as Key Resolve and Foal Eagle, and will last 11 days and involve several thousand troops.  The North chastised the games, saying that they are like beating your head on a rock.

In addition, they gave the chilling proclamation that their forces are ready to “blow up the citadel of aggressors once the order is issued.”

The military exercises that US and South Korea are engaging in are said to include, aerial attack drills, urban warfare training, and live firing.  It is said that the exercises are defensive in nature, and involve 18,000 US troops and an undisclosed amount of South Korean troops.

For a long time now, the US has wanted North Korea to back down and disarm.  Recently, the North proposed a deal to the US – they would continue talks of disarmament if the US signed a peace treaty ending the Korean War.  The US said that North Korea must first come to six-party disarmament talks before anything else is to occur.

It is expected that the disarmament talks will be successful, but as with all things we will just have to wait and see.
