Academy Awards 2010 are Amping up Hollywood
March 7th, 2010
Academy Awards 2010 are Amping up Hollywood. There’s nothing quite as exciting as the days leading up to the Academy Awards. People from across the world are excited about finding out who is going to win an Oscar tonight.
Typically, the Independent Spirit Awards would have taken place last night. Instead, the ceremony was moved to the Friday before the Oscars. Now, the celebrities have one more day to rest and rejuvinate before heading to the big show.
The fanfare for the Oscars begins with the red carpet pre-show. We all expect to see some very glamorous looks, as well as some “what were they thinking?!” moments. You’d better believe that we will be paying attention to what is going on during the red carpet pre-show and we will keep you informed.
There’s a strong rivalry between The Hurt Locker and Avatar. However, there are other films that people are excited about such as “Precious” and “The Blind Side.” Precious was a big hit at the Independent Spirit Awards, walking away with five awards, even though the film is an underdog at the Oscar ceremonies.
One exciting award category is Best Director. Both James Cameron and his ex wife Kathryn Bigelow are up for awards for Avatar and Hurt Locker, respectively. If Bigelow wins, she will sweep away three amazing accomplishments: Beating her ex, becoming the first female director to win an award, and having Hurt Locker defeat Avatar.
Jeff Bridges is favored to win Best Actor in a Lead role, and Sandra Bullock is expected to walk away for Best Actress in a Lead Role for her part in “The Blind Side.” Gabourney Sidibe, the lead actress in “Precious” is also up for the same award as Bullock – and is a strong contender for the final honor.
Don’t forget to tune in to the Oscars tonight at 5 PST 8 EST. The red carpet pre-show will begin a couple hours in advance.
