Alice in Wonderland Reviews and Trailer – Burton and Depp Steal Show

March 6th, 2010

Alice in Wonderland Reviews and Trailer – Burton and Depp Steal Show.  We all remember the cartoon from Disney featuring the Cheshire Cat and other zany creatures.  However, now Tim Burton of the “Nightmare Before Christmas” fame and Johnny Depp have joined together for a new rendition of Alice and Wonderland.

As with anything else, there are mixed reviews of Alice and Wonderland. Here are some of the negative reviews for the film:

Amy Nicolson from IE Weekly said “”Curiouser and curiouser,” says Alice in Tim Burton’s latest, and for the first time I don’t believe her.”

Michelle Orange from Movieline says “Every bit of havoc and nonesuch is put in service of the story of Alice’s feminist awakening, and it’s about as exciting as it sounds.”

Andrea Chase from Killer Movie Reviews says “Rather than a Wonderland full of terrifying adventures and deliciously absurd whimsy, Burton has created the Underland, a place of terrifyingly, yet lugubrious, bad filmmaking. He dispensed with the whimsy altogether.”

On the other hand, there were positive things said about Burton’s film.

Dave White from Movies.com said “It’s very cool to look at, Depp is entertaining, Helena Bonham Carter is memorably crazy, and the too-conventional you-go-girl plotline is just an add-on to the visual cake.”

Mike McGranaghan from Aisle Seat says “Alice is a really good time, as well as a great example of how 3-D can be effectively used as a tool to immerse us in imaginary worlds.”

Rob Vaux from Mania.com indicates “It highlights Burton’s usual strengths, along with no small number of his weaknesses.”

Of course, it doesn’t matter what the critics think.  Some of the best performing movies in the box office received horrid reviews from the critics.  For instance, Twilight wasn’t one of those critically acclaimed films, yet people waited outside for days just to see the movie.

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton are a great pair.  There is a certain dark feeling to this version of Alice in Wonderland – but that’s what makes Burton and Depp so unique. Would you expect a sugar-coated happy film from the duo – or would you expect something a little more dark and edgy?
