American Idol 2010 Recap: 10 Boys Perform

March 3rd, 2010

American Idol 2010 Recap: 10 Boys Perform.  The 9th season of American Idol is here, and we are down to 10 guys and 10 gals.  Tonight, the remaining 10 male contestants performed for judges Simon, Kara, Randy, and Ellen.  Who had strong performances and who needed a little extra work? Let’s take a look:

Michael Lynche:  Simon Cowell told Mike that tonight’s performance was one of his best.  He sang “It’s a Man’s World” by James Brown.  Some note that he went from being a “pussy cat” to a “lion.” This performance made Kara realize why he’s so popular with Idol fans, and Randy even gave him a standing O.

John Park:  This contestant sang John Mayer’s Gravity, and Simon Cowell noted that John’s a capella group back home might get their singer back because of the “boring” performance.  Ellen suggested that he sing with more soul, while Kara said his performance was better than last week.

Casey James: Sings “I don’t Wanna Be” by Gavin DeGraw, while playing his electric guitar.  Simon told him that he didn’t have the grit in his voice to be a rockstar, while Kara told him he took two steps back.  Ellen notes that James looks good on paper, but that there’s something missing in person.

Alex Lambert: He’s the most nervous contestant, even throwing up before a performance.  Does that mean he doesn’t have what it takes to become the next American Idol?  Simon says that this week’s performance was “millions” times better than last week.

Todrick Hall: Even though he’s a dude, he sings “What’s Love Got to Do With it” by Tina Turner. Simon told him to move, but not sing because it’s not working – but claims he wasn’t being rude.  Ellen thought he looked stiff when he wasn’t moving.

Jermaine Sellers: He sang “What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye, and Randy said he needed to make his performance “simpler.”  Ellen loved his style, but not his “onesie”,  and Kara told him that he should sing and focus on the song rather than doing tricks.  The contestant asked for tips on what to sing next week, and Simon mentioned he just might not be there.

Andrew Garcia disappointed the judges this week after last week’s performance. Some pitch problems were noted in his performance.

Aaron Kelly sings “My Girl” by the Temptations. Simon says that the performance was “old fashioned” and that he should show America what type of artist he can be.  Everyone thinks he’s got a great voice, but just needs to be more “memorable.”

Tim Urban sang, and Randy said it was like Karaoke.  Simon was very positive and noted that Urban took everyone’s criticism and worked hard during the week.  Everyone thought he would go home last week, but he didn’t.  Will he hold in there to the end?

Lee Dewyze:  Simon says that this guy needs to have some self belief.  He sang a great song, “Lips of an Angel” by Hinder. He was nervous, but still performed decently.

So which of the top 10 male contestants on American Idol 2010 do you think will make it to the next week? Who do you think will be voted off? Leave your comments below.
