Tier 5 Unemployment Benefits Extension – HR 4213 and a Deadline

May 26th, 2010

Tier 5 Unemployment Benefits Extension – HR 4213 and a Deadline.  The Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension isn’t gaining any ground on Capital Hill.  Currently, HR 4213 is the hot item of the day, as it will once again extend unemployment benefits to Tiers 1-4.

The extension is until December 31, 2010 – at which point it’s not certain whether or not there are immediate plans to extend the tiers once again.

The HR 4213 bill is good news for the unemployed who will experience a lapse in benefit as of June 2, however as the Continuing Benefits Act was not immediately passed before a Senate recess, the current HR 4213 may not pass either.

The Senate will vote on the bill later on this week.  As with any unemployment legislation making its way through Congress there is a lot of partisan back and forth.   Unfortunately the casualty of that back and forth political pull is the unemployed.

Those who need a fifth tier of benefits are out of luck. The tier 5 benefits extensions are needed by millions of Americans -they are even needed moreso than the millions of dollars of taxpayer money sent to corporate America each and every day.

Those who need the tier 5 extension should sign the petition at Change.org. In addition, the mid-term elections are coming up and perhaps after the voting public has spoken, the tier 5 legislation will finally get let off its ground.
