Puerto Rico 5.8 Earthquake 2010 – 5.8 Earthquake Casualties, and Damage
May 17th, 2010
Puerto Rico 5.8 Earthquake 2010 – 5.8 Earthquake Casualties, and Damage. The 5.8 earthquake yesterday in Puerto Rico is only the latest of the earthquakes in 2010. While there are no reported deaths or injuries, structural damage in Puerto Rico has occurred. The seismic activities took place 62 miles from San Juan and 3 miles from Moca.
In San Juan, those living in high rise buildings could feel the earthquake as their buildings swayed.
In addition, there was a rockslide on a highway – which could have hurt someone but luckily didn’t.
The earthquake took place at approximately 1:16 AM Local time. The quake was felt not only in San Juan and around Moca but Vieques, Culebra, Santa Cruz, as well as the rest of the Virgin Islands.
This is only the latest in the string of quakes. Many are fearful of the implications of repeated quakes in the world – especially after the superquakes felt in Haiti and Chile a short few weeks apart.
The Puerto Rican earthquake did not cause any tsunamis and was not among the more serious felt in the world. Those breathing a sigh of relief should do so with caution, as some experts warn that Sunday’s quake could mean more are on their way.
