Chile Earthquake 2010 Death Toll a Continually Increasing Figure
March 1st, 2010
Chile Earthquake 2010 Death Toll a Continually Increasing Figure. The first reports we did over the earthquake in Chile, the death toll was set at 122. At the time, it was well known that the death toll would continue to climb, although no one expects the totals to reach the level of the Haitian earthquake.
After the figures was at 122, it climbed to 300. Now, the Chile earthquake death toll has reached 708 individuals.
Other problems striking the area include massive looting. People are starting to panic in the wake of the quake, and want to secure food for their families. For some, this means stealing food that is not theirs in order to ensure survival.
The 8.8 earthquake riddled Chile in the early hours of Saturday morning. It prompted several aftershocks, including a 6.3 earthquake in Argentina that killed two individuals. In addition, the quakes caused a tsunami in Hawaii that did not cause any casualties or damage (click here for more information). A tsunami was also felt in Ventura, California.
Chile’s earthquake comes after Haiti’s earthquake in January and an earthquake in Japan on Friday. Even though the building codes in Chile are better, there’s still a lot of structural damage done to a lot of the buildings and it will take a lot of time and money to re-build now that the quake is through.
