Ahmadinejad and Nasrallah Meet in Syria

February 27th, 2010

Ahmadinejad and Nasrallah Meet in Syria.  Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the leader of terrorist organization Hezbollah met in Syria.  This is a very important meeting, as Nasrallah typically doesn’t ever appear in public because of Israeli death threats.  Even when he addresses his own followers, he does so via video.

Syria and Iran both fund Hezbollah, which is troublesome for Israel.  During the 33 day war in 2006, 1,200 Lebanese people – including civilians were killed.  Israeli’s only lost 160 people, most of whom were in the military.

The US wanted to strengthen ties with Syria, and it is as a result of that call that the two leaders met.  American officials have called for Syria to cut ties with Iran, but both leaders have been defiant and dismiss those requests.

Tensions are building over in Iran, as they continue nuclear testing despite repeated requests to stop. In addition, Ahmadinejad has made the following troublesome statement: “If the Zionist regime decides to repeat its past mistakes, the region will finish it off.”

For those that don’t know, the Zionist regime refers to Israel.  The US has strong ties to Israel and any action against them would pull us in to yet another big mess over in the Middle East.

The two associates discussed, among other things, the developments in the region and threats against Lebanon and Syria.
