Children’s Medication Recall and 2010 Tylenol Recall Affects Children & Infant Medicine UPDATE

Children’s Medication Recall and 2010 Tylenol Recall Affects Children & Infant Medicine UPDATE.  McNeil Healthcare issued a Tylenol recall late last week, but it was a voluntary recall. Despite being voluntary, the recall is causing quite a few problems for the company with not only the FDA but also the federal government.

You see, this is McNeil’s fourth major recall in seven months.  McNeil is an arm of Johnson & Johnson, and the recent Tylenol recalls have shaken consumer confidence, at best.

Luckily no one has died or fallen ill because of the medication. On the other hand, the medication has been found to contain contaminants by the FDA.

The Federal government isn’t too pleased with either Johnson & Johnson or the FDA.  They are launching their own investigation into the recalls to see if steps could have taken place to avoid the recall.

The FDA has found that there were machines within the Pennsylvania plant that were caked with dust. In addition, several documented consumer complaints over dark flecks inside the liquid drugs were found.  McNeil never responded to the complaints, and part of the issue of the recall is that there is a possibility that there could be metal present in the medication.

Parents who have purchased some of the 40 plus recalled drugs can get their money back. Head on over to McNeil’s Web site for more details, along with a list of the exact drugs affected by the recall.
